How Auction Swap Works

Trade what you have for what you want — safely, with both sides protected.

Swap lets you trade an item for another item instead of selling it for cash. You can offer a swap in two ways: as a dedicated swap auction type, or by flipping on the "Accept swaps" toggle on any of your regular sell or auction listings. An item can be up for sale, up for auction, and open to swaps all at once — you stay in control of which offer you take.

Swaps are available in ordinary listings and inside live auction rooms. Whichever way you trade, the same protections below apply.

The flow, step by step

1. Someone lists an item open to swaps. The owner describes what they have and, optionally, hints at what they're hoping to get.
2. Interested traders offer their own items. You propose one of your items in exchange. If the two items aren't worth the same, either side can add a cash "boot" — the cash difference — to balance the trade.
3. The owner picks the offer they value most. There's no formula and no appraisal. The listing owner chooses the winning offer by their own judgement of value. They can accept, decline, or counter any offer.
4. Both parties sign a binding Digital Agreement. Before anything ships, you both sign an agreement that lists each item, its condition, any boot, who ships what, and the anti-fraud clause. Nothing moves until both signatures are in.
5. Bonds and boot go into escrow. Any optional security bond and any cash boot are held safely by NexudeIT escrow.
6. Both sides ship and confirm. Each of you marks the item as shipped, then confirms when the other's item arrives in good order ("dual-ship confirmation").
7. Escrow releases. Once both sides confirm a good receipt, bonds come back and the boot is released. Trade complete.

Value is the owner's call — not an appraisal

NexudeIT runs the mechanism, but we don't appraise, certify, or guarantee what anything is worth. When you accept a swap, you're accepting the other person's item at their stated condition and your own judgement of value. That's why the description, photos, and the signed agreement matter so much — they're what a dispute is judged against.

What "full protection" means

Binding Digital Agreement. Mandatory on every swap. It's a timestamped, non-editable record you can rely on in a dispute.
Optional refundable security bond. Either or both sides can put up a bond, held in escrow. It comes back in full on a good trade — or goes to the wronged party if a dispute is sustained.
Cash boot in escrow. Any agreed cash difference is held safely and released only on completion.
Dual-ship confirmation. Funds and bonds release only after both sides confirm they received what they were promised.
Dispute path. If something goes wrong, you open a dispute through the same escrow / Community-Jury flow used for cash orders. NexudeIT admins have the final call.

How the money works

Here's the plain-English version of what happens to any money in a swap. The short answer: a bond or boot is held on your card, not charged — the same way a hotel puts a hold on your card at check-in — and it's only ever actually taken if a dispute decides it should be.

Your security bond is held, not spent. When a swap needs a bond, we place an authorized hold on your card for that amount. The money is set aside by the payment processor, but it is not charged. If the swap goes well, the hold is simply released and the money was never taken.
The cash boot is held until both sides confirm. If one side is adding cash to balance the trade, that boot is held the same way. It's only moved to the person receiving it once both of you have shipped and confirmed you got what you were promised.
A swap isn't binding until the holds go through. The trade only goes live once every required hold — each bond, plus any boot — is authorized on the paying side's card. If a hold can't be placed, the accepted swap can be cancelled and nobody is on the hook to ship. Wait for the "funded" green light before you mail anything.
Clean trade? Everything comes back. When you both confirm a good receipt, the boot is released to its recipient and both bonds are released in full — the holds drop off and no bond is ever captured.
Something went wrong? Open a dispute, and our team decides. If the item isn't as described or one side doesn't hold up their end, open a dispute. NexudeIT reviews the evidence and your signed agreement and decides who the bond goes to — it can be forfeited to the honest party, or funds refunded, based on what the evidence and the agreement show. That decision is final for the money held on the platform.

Staying safe from fraud

Never ship before the agreement is signed. If you mail your item before both signatures and the escrow funding are in place, you lose every protection above. Wait for the green light.
Use the security bond on higher-value trades. A refundable bond gives the other side a real reason to follow through, and gives you a pool to be made whole from if they don't.
Keep it on-platform. Anyone asking you to swap or pay outside NexudeIT is trying to get around the protections — that's a red flag, not a shortcut.
Photograph and document before you ship. Clear photos of the item and the packed parcel are your best evidence if you ever need the dispute path.
If the item isn't as described, open a dispute. Don't confirm receipt to "be nice" — confirming releases escrow. If what arrived doesn't match the signed description, raise it through the dispute flow instead.

A note on tax

Trading isn't always tax-free. In the US and many other places, the fair market value of an item you receive in a swap can count as taxable income, and giving up your item can be a taxable event too.
